Organic growing is relatively simple
but very labour intensive.
Each spring we prune and weed each
plant. This takes over 3 months. Next we apply home-made compost.
Finally, we spread a heavy
sawdust mulch around each plant. This keeps weeds down and
preserves moisture in the root zone. Drip
irrigation waters our plants through the summer heat.
As we observe the thrilling activity
of our essential bees in springtime, protective
ladybugs in summer, and soil-building worms throughout the
year, it is satisfying to know that we are providing them
with a healthy, natural working environment.
